Tesla Model Y

Tesla Model Y is the first-ever electric CUV, which is a crossover utility vehicle, which was introduced by the company in March 2019, whose manufacturing began in January 2020 in the Fremont plant.

We can simply say that this model Y is a modification of Model S taking into consideration the fact that 75 percent of the parts of model Y are the same as that of Model S, among which the prominent things are its interior and power train. This is a car which is smaller and less expensive than the Model X.

The Model Y gains its uniqueness with its extra-large boot space accounting for a total of 68 cubic feet which enables it to make enough space for 7 passengers and their luggage. It has a range of 326 miles, which means it can cover up to 326 miles with a single charge. Not only this, but it is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive which gives the car added stability.

Safety

Safety has been the parameter that has been mostly taken care of in this car. There are special 3 features which make its safety more and more reliable.

The first is its rigid structure which makes it safer than its other sibling cars. The second one being impact protection, which saves the car from any of the potential impacts that can cause damage to the vehicle. And the last one is a low center of gravity, due to which the car stays low, and which in turn lowers the risk of rollover risk. This car is thus designed as the safest car in its class and these three features make the car unparalleled in the league of safety.

Drive

The all-wheel-drive makes the car more stable and safer on the roads. Being a dual-motor, the 2 motors digitally control the torque in the front and rear wheel. Not only this but it has a very quick acceleration in the class of its vehicles. It reaches from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.5 seconds. Its best-in-class traction control makes it a perfect vehicle for all terrains that is for rain, snow, mud, and off-roading.

Autopilot

Now coming to the unique selling point of the car, Tesla has been always famous for the self-drive. For providing maximum safety the company has fitted numerous cameras in the front, rear as well as sides of the car. It has a unique front-facing radar which enables the drives to have a 160 m front view of objects. Fully loaded with 12 ultrasonic sensors, the car saves you from colliding with nearby cars and also assist in parking.

Battery Capacity

You can go anywhere up to 326 miles, with just one charge. And for that matter, a 15-minute charge would take the car as long as 165 miles which is simply amazing. With more than 20000 chargers connected through the popularly traveled roads, it makes the user experience more simplistic.

Utility

Model Y provides maximum stability and versatility which can carry 7 people along with their luggage. Each second-row seat folds flat independently creating space for cargo like skis, furniture, and more. The liftgate opens to the lower trunk floor that makes loading and unloading easy and quick.

Interior

Talking about the interior of the car, it has a huge 15-inch display which is a touchscreen that is designed to improve over time. With over the air updates, the company keeps up adding new features, functionality, and performance to the car. I also have an expansive glass roof which provides extra headroom and UV protection. To add up to all this, Tesla motors have provided an immersive sound system that makes the car more enjoyable.

Specifications

The most important thing about any car is its specifications. Coming to its battery, it is a long-range type battery, and it weighs about 4416 lbs in weight. It is an all-wheel-drive or a 4 wheel drive which gives an edge over other cars. It has a supercharging max value of 250kW. Coming to its seating capacity, it is a 7-seater car. And lastly, the tires have a size of 21’’

Rating

Getting into the stats of safety of the Tesla cars, and especially model S, NHTSA has found some issues in it and has ordered it to recall. But still, in the sector of Hybrid and electric cars, Tesla Model Y is one of the safe cars.

Pros and Cons of the Car

Talking about Pros:

• Lots of storage space: for a car in its class. You have a big trunk (with a hidden compartment) and a front trunk (or frunk). The backseats collapse too, giving up to 68 cubic feet of storage space.
• Clean single screen setup with nothing behind the wheel (the Model 3 has this too). I used to think this was weird before, but after test driving the Model Y and using mine for a few days now I think it’s a much cleaner setup and makes it easier to focus. It’s just a matter of getting used to though.
• Regenerative braking This means that when you take your foot off the gas the car brakes and the car’s kinetic energy is used to recharge the battery a little. Additionally, the car has no roll while in drive mode. Apart from the energy-saving part, this makes for a better driving experience. It takes some getting used to, but I rarely need my brake now and do single-pedal driving.

Coming to its Cons:

• No gas / having to plan out larger trips: This can be a pro and a con. The pro is that you don’t need to worry about gas/charging if you are driving a bunch around where you live. The con is that if you are going to travel a large distance, you need to charge the car. However, charging will take time (at least 20 minutes) while gas would be 5–10 minutes. It’s not a huge deal though, because I’m the type of person that would take 30-minute breaks every 4 hours or so and the Supercharger network is strong.
